The workshop Japanese Ghosts in Art, Literature, and Popular Culture will take place on June 4th (Auditorium A1, Tower A) at NOVA FCSH.
The event will feature presentations on different configurations of spectrality both in Japanese artistic objects and Portuguese/Brazilian art in which Japan is a central theme.
Aljaž Mesner will analyze the presence of ghostly beings in contemporary Japanese culture from an anthropological perspective; Amândio Reis will focus on translations of Japanese folk literature interspersed in the chronicles and autobiographical texts of Wenceslau de Moraes; Bárbara Bergamaschi will present her own short film in which, using images from online surveillance cameras and geolocation sites, she reenacts the journey of the Japanese poet Bashō in his book “Sendas de Oku — a travel diary”; and José Bértolo will discuss a book by photographer Seiichi Furuya in which he collects visual records of the first and last trips he made with his wife, Christine Gössler, who died prematurely.
The presentations will be held in English. More information here.
