Gonçalo M. Tavares won the Vergílio Ferreira Literary Prize for the “originality of his fictional and essayistic work”.

Established in 1996, the Vergílio Ferreira Prize honours every year the literary work of a Portuguese-speaking author who is relevant in the field of narrative or essay.
