Harvesting Context and Mining Emotions Related to Olfactory Cultural Heritage

The article Harvesting Context and Mining Emotions Related to Olfactory Cultural Heritage has just been published in open access in the Multimodal Technologies and Interaction Journal. 

This article is the result of the collaboration between two european projects, VAST: Values Across Space and Time and ODEUROPA. The authors representing VAST are Sara Graça da SilvaCarla Murteira and Natasza Marrouch.

The paper presents an artificial intelligence approach to mining context and emotions related to olfactory cultural heritage by introducing a methodology for extracting smells and emotions from text. The particular attention in the paper is dedicated to the interdisciplinary aspects on the topic of fairy tales. It discusses historical aspects for smells and emotions, the theories of emotion from a psychological perspective, and the relationship between smell, emotions and language.
