“Almada Negreiros and Le Corbusier: Parallel Methodologies and Critical Reception” is the latest article by researcher Simão Palmeirim, published in open access in the RIHA Journal.
This article looks at the parallels between Le Corbusier (1887-1965) and José de Almada Negreiros (1893-1970), two artists who devoted themselves to geometry and developed a theory with a universalistic approach that extended beyond their artistic production. Le Corbusier’s international recognition led to extensive research into his works, while Almada’s theoretical studies on geometry and art have only recently been the subject of systematic investigation.
Documents recently found in Almada’s estate shed new light on the author’s knowledge. This paper reveals these documents and examines them in depth to identify both parallels and a structural and theoretical divergence between these authors.
