Research projects supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation

Two research projects have been supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation within the scope of Advanced Studies in the fields of Portuguese Language and Culture.

One of them is Portuguese Women Writers during Military Dictatorship and Estado Novo, which aims to integrate the writing produced by women into the Portuguese heritage, since traditionally the canon of Portuguese literature is essentially male. In order to achieve this goal, the project aims to catalogue and analyse the literary production of female authors who published during the Military Dictatorship and the Estado Novo, creating an online database with free access. This project is being developed by IELT, in partnership with CICS.NOVA, through the Faces of Eva research team, and with CRILUS (Centre de Recherches Interdisciplinaires sur le monde Lusophone – Paris Nanterre University).

The other project is Ruy Cinatti: ethnographer and poet, which looks at Ruy Cinatti’s work in Timor and the relationship between his anthropological research and his artistic creation as a poet. This project was proposed by IELT (Universidade Aberta) in partnership with the Center of Studies on Migrations and Intercultural Relations in collaboration with the Universidade Nacional Timor Lorosa’e.
