Documentary: Açúcar

The documentary Açúcar [Sugar] features IELT researcher Inês de Ornellas e Castro and was written by journalist Anabela Saint-Maurice.

For centuries, sugar was considered a spice with healing qualities and was therefore used as a medicine in medieval apothecaries. In the 19th century, sugar was associated with dessert, where it played a prestigious role alongside crystal and porcelain.
